Abstract

This research examines the educational insights of Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī (1149
1209 CE), one of the most influential Islamic theologians and philosophers of
the medieval period. Through a comprehensive analysis of his works,
particularly his treatise on physiognomy (Kitāb al-Firāsah), this study explores
al-Rāzī's conceptualization of education as an integrated process encompassing
physical, psychological, and spiritual dimensions. The research investigates his
theories on human nature, individual differences, moral development, and the
epistemological foundations of learning. Al-Rāzī's educational philosophy
represents a sophisticated synthesis of Islamic theological principles, Greco
Arabic philosophical traditions, and empirical observations of human behavior.
His approach to education emphasizes the cultivation of balanced temperament
(i‘tidāl al-mizāj), the recognition of individual aptitudes, and the integration of
theoretical knowledge with practical wisdom. The philosophical impact of his
educational thought extends to contemporary discussions on character
education, differentiated instruction, and the holistic development of learners.
This research contributes to the understanding of Islamic educational heritage
and its relevance to modern educational theory and practice.
